Time for action on Aus Day film comp

2014 Short Film Youth Competition winner Summer Harris. Picture: GREG TOTMANAspiringSpielbergs or Kubricks are urged to get behind the camera and start rolling, with entries open for the Australia Day Short Film Youth Competition.

The initiative, from Wollongong City Council’s youth services division, is pushing filmmakers between the ages of 12 and 24 to create a short movie based on the theme “Wollongong And Me”.

Prizes include new high-definition video cameras.

“We are seeking entries from filmmakers from all suburbs of the city, the more the merrier,” council’s youth services co-ordinator Toby Schaefer-Darling said.

“We encourage the filmmakers to stretch their imagination in dealing with the theme. We especially want to see and encourage all styles of film, from documentaries, animation, drama, comedy, horror or any combination.”

The films must have been made in the past 18 months and must have had all music copyright cleared.

Films can be submitted on DVD or USB, or uploaded online.

Entries close on January 5, and the winning entries will be shown at the council’s Australia Day celebrations. See herefor more information.
