Sunraysia Disability Resource Centre manager Joy Clarke said the centre would celebrate its sixth birthday and wanted to share its success.

“We do advocacy work, we have a counsellor here and lots of support groups come and meet here,” Mrs Clarke said.

“We give them a home and provide information and referral services.”

Mrs Clarke said the Langtree Avenue centre was “pretty unique” from other disability organisations.

“Our centre is run by people with a disability for people with a disability,” she said.

“But most places are run by able bodied people who like to think they know what its like to live with a disability.”

International Day of People with a Disability is celebrated on December 3 each year.

Mrs Clarke said the centre would host an open day from 10.30am to 1.30pm with a dedication service to honour a recently deceased founder.
