Corangamite Shire sets meeting locations

CORANGAMITE Shire will hold two meetings away from its Camperdown chambers next year.

The 2015 meeting agenda was set at Tuesday night’s council meeting, with Port Campbell and Terang nominated to host meetings during the year.

Port Campbell will host the March meeting, while Terang will host September’s meeting.

Shire chief executive officer Andrew Mason said holding meetings in other towns provided an opportunity for residents who may not be able to make it to Camperdown to come and see how the council works. “Under this plan, each of the major population centres in the shire will have hosted a meeting once during the term of this council,” he said.

There was also discussion about whether to start meetings earlier than 7pm, but councillors voted to “stick with tradition”. Cr Jo Beard said that until the public let council know they don’t like the 7pm start time, things should be left as they are. “It means people who work have an opportunity to come along to meetings.”

Next year’s meetings will remain on the fourth Tuesday of the month, except for December which will be brought forward due to Christmas.
