The Sydney-based charity supporter has made it his mission to travel the length of the Murray River – 2000km – on his windsurfer to raise money for Aboriginal health services.

Beginning his river trek in 2006 in Albury, Mr McEwin returns to the river for days or weeks at a time to complete 200km stints that he hopes will add up to the length of the Murray River.

So far he has seen many different areas and surroundings of the Murray River, all from the comfort of his windsurf board.

“I’ve travelled 1400km so far over the years, and going at about 3km an hour it’s a pretty big trip,” Mr McEwin said.

Mr McEwin said with weather conditions and currents always changing there were times where he was left to paddle.

But he said as long as the board gets down the river by his own efforts and no motor, he will have accomplished his challenge.

He sailed along Mildura from Bruce’s Bend to Wentworth over the past 10 days, and praised his land crew.

He said it was a “slight luxury” that he was very appreciative for after a long, hot day surfing.

“The crew will drop me off at my location and pick me up,” he said.
